Day 11 - Sunday 9/27/09 - Victory Falls and home

We were awake at 6:15, showered, finished packing and got our bags ready for pickup. We checked out at 7 and then went for breakfast. Linda joined us, and once again it was great. Today I had a poached egg on an English muffin with hollandaise along with many other delightful items from the buffet.

We all gathered in the lobby at 9 to head out to the airport. Everyone was more weighted down with all of our purchases. We piled into our planes and headed out at 9:45 for the 3 hour flight back to Johannesburg. Going through customs and immigration was no problem once again.

Marc and Barbara were scheduled to fly out the next day and were trying to get on the 6pm flight today. We left them at the counter and went down to the food court where we found an Indian restaurant where we had falafel sandwich and some other kind of sandwich. We saw Barbara and Marc wandering by and they joined us for lunch.

We separated and checked in. That line was a little slow, but we eventually made it through and went through security. Bill pointed out a Food From Africa store. I bought some marula jelly, some bush tea, and some amarula chocolates.

We boarded our flight at 7pm. It was fairly crowded, so we didn’t get extra room for the horrific 18 hour flight back to NYC. Luckily I slept at least 10-12 of those hours. We did stop in Dakar Senegal to refuel, but we didn’t have to get off.

Bill bought a bottle of amarula on the plane, so we were pretty loaded down when we got off. I had to declare ‘food’ since I had candy and the marula jelly, but the customs person didn’t seem bothered by it, and we got through. The car picked us up and we were home at Mandy’s by 9:30am.

It was a truly amazing trip, and I am still over the moon about it all!
